Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
